COVID19: Boris Johnson receiving oxygen, doesn't require ventilator


UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson, who is battling worsening coronavirus symptoms, was stable during his first night in an medical aid unit at a London hospital, the PM's spokesman said on Tuesday.

"The prime minister has been stable overnight and remains in good spirits. he's receiving standard oxygen treatment and breathing with none other assistance. He has not required mechanical ventilation or non-invasive respiratory support," the spokesman said, adding that Johnson didn't have pneumonia.

Johnson, 55, first announced he had tested positive for the virus on March 27 and went into self-isolation.

After failing to shake off a high fever for over per week, he was admitted to Guy's and St Thomas' hospital in central London on Sunday from where he continued to steer the govt. until he was moved into medical aid on Monday evening when his condition deteriorated.

"Over the course of [Monday] afternoon, the condition of the prime minister has worsened and, on the recommendation of his medical team, he has been moved to the medical aid unit at the hospital," Number 10 said in an exceedingly statement.

Johnson has asked Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab to deputise where necessary.

In Tuesday's daily afternoon briefing, Raab told reporters that the prime minister was breathing without assistance and had not required respiratory support.

"He remains in good spirits," said Raab. "And to keep with usual clinical practice, his progress continues to be monitored closely.

"I'm confident he will pull through. If there's one thing i do know about this prime minister, he's a fighter."

It was also announced on Tuesday afternoon that, as of 16:00 GMT on Monday, 6,159 people within the UK had died from coronavirus, consistent with the health ministry. over 55,000 people have thus far tested positive for the virus.

The PM's spokesman on Tuesday said Raab and therefore the cabinet had the authority to make a decision on national security issues in Johnson's absence, but that Raab didn't currently have the facility to rent or fire ministers.

If Raab became unable to steer, Rishi Sunak, the chancellor, would lead government, said the spokesman.

Before being moved within the hospital, Johnson tweeted: "Last night, on the recommendation of my doctor, I went into hospital for a few routine tests as I'm still experiencing coronavirus symptoms. I'm in good spirits and keeping to bear with my team, as we work together to fight this virus and keep everyone safe.

"I'd wish to say thanks to all or any the brilliant NHS staff taking care of me et al during this difficult time. you're the simplest of england. Stay safe everyone and please remember to remain reception to safeguard the NHS and save lives."

Keir Starmer, the new leader of the opposition political party, tweeted: "Terribly sad news. All the country's thoughts are with the Prime Minister and his family during this incredibly difficult time."

Starmer's predecessor Jeremy Corbyn said: "My thoughts are with Boris Johnson and his family.

"Thanks to the NHS staff for his or her diligence and dedication."

According to a Nigerian Veteran singer (Pasuma Wonder) stated that he was never chased out of the End SARS protest in Alausa, Lagos state over the weekend.

Videos were shared online over the weekend showing the singer being escorted out of the protest ground.



In a video that was posted on his Instagram page, The Veteran singer stated that he was never chased away by the protesters.




He also stated that he was well received by the youths who known that he is in support of their fight of the #ENDSARS.
