Jealous wife arrested for dr£wning her husband first wife children in a r£ver after being unable to have a child for him
Police officers in Lusaka have rescued a man identified as Titus Kamanga from an angry mob following accusations that he conspired with his wife in the m£rder of two children.
The incident reportedly occurred on February 25, 2026, at the Ngwerere River, where two children aged six and two were allegedly dr£wned by their stepmother, Mary Kachilika.
According to reports, the children’s father was not at home at the time of the incident. Their biological mother, Fanny Kanyinji, was said to be carrying out household chores while the children were eating outside. She reportedly heard them crying and ran toward the river but arrived too late to save them.
A fisherman at the scene is said to have witnessed Kachilika throwing the children into the water and immediately apprehended her.
It was further revealed that Kamanga married Mary on January 10, 2025, and that the couple did not have children together. Members of the community reportedly turned against Kamanga, blaming his decision to take a second wife for the tragedy that has plunged the area into mourning.
When police arrived at the scene, officers quickly formed a protective barrier around Kamanga and escorted him into a police vehicle as tensions escalated. Witnesses said sections of the crowd surged forward, threatening to attack him before officers drove him away.
Meanwhile, search operations for the children’s bodies continued, with officers from the Zambia Police Service joined by the Zambia Army and the Chongwe Council Fire Brigade combing the river.
As of more than 24 hours after the incident, the bodies had not yet been recovered.
Police confirmed that investigations are ongoing. The 26-year-old suspect, Mary Kachilika, remains in custody as authorities continue their inquiry into the tragic incident.
