Florida Moves to Rename Palm Beach International Airport After Donald Trump

A popular airport in the United States, Palm Beach International Airport, is set to be renamed after Donald Trump.

Reports indicate that the legislation approving the name change was signed by Ron DeSantis, with the new name expected to take effect from July 1.

The airport holds significance for Trump, as it is the main arrival point when he travels to Mar-a-Lago.

Trump and the airport also share a history. In 2015, he filed a $100 million lawsuit aimed at limiting aircraft flying over his resort. However, he later dropped the lawsuit after becoming president and instead implemented a no-fly zone over the area.

Palm Beach is located at the northern end of a long metropolitan stretch that extends down toward Miami.

Although the Federal Aviation Administration will still need to approve the name change, there are currently no indications that it will oppose the move.

While naming airports after U.S. presidents is not unusual, such honors are typically granted long after they have left office. For example, Dwight Eisenhower, Gerald Ford, and George H. W. Bush all had airports named after them years after their presidencies.

It was also noted that had Hillary Clinton won the 2016 presidential election, she would have entered office with an airport already bearing her name.
