Quest suspended for missing team of Alaska vessel

The Coast Guard in Alaska suspended its quest Wednesday evening for five missing team individuals who were on a crab angling vessel that sank off Sutwik Island.

The Scandies Rose sank at around 10 p.m. Tuesday. The 130-foot crab angling vessel was from Dutch Harbor, the Coast Guard said.

The pursuit crossed more than 20 hours and 1,400 square miles. Two survivors were protected and taken to an emergency clinic in Kodiak, the Coast Guard said. They are accounted for to be in stable condition.

"The choice to suspend a functioning inquiry and salvage case is rarely simple," said Rear Adm. Matthew Bell, seventeenth District Commander. "Our most profound sympathies to the loved ones affected by this catastrophe."

The zone had 15-to 20-foot oceans, twists more than 40 mph, and 1-mile perceivability, the Coast Guard said.

Teams in a MH-60 helicopter and a HC-130 plane aided the salvage of the two group individuals who were in an actual existence pontoon.
